Helpline number to contact Indian Embassy in Syria
The Ministry of External Affairs has also released a helpline number. The helpline number is +963993385973. A WhatsApp message can also be sent on this. Apart from this, the embassy can also be contacted through email at hoc.damascus@mea.gov.in. India on Friday said it was keeping a close eye on the situation in Syria amid growing control of Islamist-led rebels. Rebels also took control of much of the central Syrian city of Homs on Thursday after capturing most of the country’s largest city, Aleppo.
“Those who can go, are advised to leave Syria by commercial flights as soon as possible and others are requested to exercise extreme caution regarding their safety and limit their movements to a minimum,” the ministry said. It is worth noting that the Islamic terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has captured the main city of Hama and is moving towards the city of Homs.
Thousands of people have had to leave their homes. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have taken note of the recent escalation of fighting in northern Syria. We are closely monitoring the situation. There are around 90 Indian nationals in Syria, out of which 14 are working for various UN organizations.” He said, “Our mission is to keep in touch with our citizens for their safety.” (with input from language)
